When I realized that pretty much every store bought taco seasoning mix contains MSG, lactose, citric acid and corn syrup I wondered what that had to do with mexican cuisine. There are a few precious brands that use spices only. But making your own mexican spice mis is really easy. I usually make a big batch that will last for about 6 months.
MEXICAN SPICE MIX
1/2 cup paprika powder
1/4 cup cumin powder
1 teaspoon chili powder
2 teaspoons chili flakes
3 tablespoons onion powder
3 tablespoons garlic powder
3 tablespoons dried oregano
Simply add all ingredients to a bowl and stir until thoroughly combined. Store in an air-tight glass jar in a cold and dark place up to 6 months.
